Payer Sources

The cost of home care services largely depends on the client’s level of need, location where services will be provided, and the service hours needed. Typical payer sources include Medicaid, Private Pay, Long Term Care Insurance, Worker’s Compensation, and assistance from the Aid and Attendance Program through the Veteran’s Administration. Currently, Medicare and Private Health Insurance do not reimburse for in-home care.

Medicaid

Medicaid offers home and community-based services through the Office of Aging and Adult Services (OAAS) and the Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD). OAAS provides assistance to aging adults through their Long Term Personal Care Services (LT-PCS) and Community Choice Waiver (CCW). OCDD provides assistance to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities through the Children’s Choice Waiver (CC), New Opportunities Waiver (NOW), and Residential Options Waiver (ROW).

For more information on each of these programs, you may visit the following links to discover services provided, qualifications/eligibility, resources, income limits, and contact information:

Private Pay

Americare bills clients bi-weekly for services provided. We currently accept personal checks, cashier checks, money orders or bank drafts for payment on accounts.

Long Term Care Insurance

Long Term Care (LTC) Insurance is a separate policy designed to cover activities of daily living that are not covered by health insurance. LTC policies usually cover personal care services in your home or in a facility. Americare works with all LTC insurance companies, and insurance claims are filed bi-weekly to remove that burden from the client and their family. You may also authorize your LTC insurance company to pay Americare directly, if desired.

Worker’s Compensation Insurance

Worker’s compensation (WC) is insurance that pays for benefits and/or medical care to workers who are injured while performing job duties. Similar to long-term care insurance, worker's compensation insurance claims are filed bi-weekly. Worker’s compensation payments are paid by the insurance provider directly to Americare.

VA Aid and Attendance

If you are a veteran, or the spouse of a veteran, and meet specific eligibility criteria, you may qualify for the Aid and Attendance program. Visit your local Veteran’s Administration office or http://va.gov/pension/aid-attendance-housebound/ to apply for this benefit.
